Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade, Fischer: “They’re Asking for the Moon”

Giannis Antetokounmpo appears ready to move on from the Bucks: the franchise’s asking price is sky-high, but the Heat, Knicks, Warriors and Timberwolves are reportedly prepared to make an offer

The future of Giannis Antetokounmpo will, in all likelihood, be away from Milwaukee. According to ESPN sources, the two-time MVP is ready for a new chapter, and several NBA teams have already submitted concrete offers to the Milwaukee Bucks, who are now listening more seriously.

League sources indicate that the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors are among the most interested franchises. The Bucks, however, are in no rush: if their asking price – a combination of high-end young players and multiple draft picks – is not met, the organization would prefer to wait until the summer to evaluate potentially more appealing offers.

According to one NBA executive, Milwaukee’s demands are extremely steep:

They’re asking for the moon,” a general manager told me Thursday morning. “All of your young players and all of your draft picks.

Antetokounmpo, 31, has reportedly informed the Bucks’ front office for months that he feels it’s time to close a chapter that has lasted more than 12 years. The team, currently sitting at 18-27 and 12th in the Eastern Conference, is in a phase of deep reflection about its future. A mix of injuries and inconsistent performances has pushed both sides toward more open discussions.

Contract context

Giannis will become eligible on October 1 for a four-year $275 million supermax extension. Without a new deal, he could become a free agent in 2027 by declining the $62.8 million player option for that season. As a result, the coming year is pivotal: any team acquiring him would want clarity on his long-term commitment.

Whether he stays or leaves will decisively shape the future of the franchise, which in recent years has built competitive rosters around him but has failed to advance past the first round of the NBA Playoffs in each of the last three seasons.

Giannis’ future therefore remains a central storyline for the 2025-26 NBA season, with potentially far-reaching consequences not only for Milwaukee, but for the balance of the entire league.
