There are summers that shift the balance of the league. And then there are summers that can rewrite its history. The one awaiting LeBron James belongs in the second category.

After years of contractual stability, No. 23 finds himself back at the center of the market. The Lakers appear ready to open a new chapter, handing the keys of the franchise to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. It’s a quiet but meaningful transition: the LeBron era in Los Angeles may be nearing its end.

Into this scenario steps Golden State. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, pillars of the Warriors dynasty, are reportedly prepared to apply pressure to convince him. The idea is powerful: unite two icons who battled each other in the NBA Finals for years. No longer rivals, but allies in one final push for a championship.

San Francisco is also just about a 90-minute flight from Los Angeles. James’ wife and daughter live in L.A. Signing with the Warriors would allow him to remain relatively close to his family without staying with the Lakers, who – according to sources – are ready to move on from the James era and build entirely around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves

LeBron–Warriors: How It Could Work

The basketball appeal is obvious. Curry“accused” by Barkley of ruining the game – thriving off the ball, LeBron as the primary creator, Green orchestrating the defense and reads: it’s a cerebral fit even before it’s an athletic one. But the operation would be complex. James’ current deal is worth more than $50 million, a figure difficult to replicate at age 41. Golden State is already pressed against the cap and would need extreme creativity, through cuts, trades and potential sacrifices.

There are two paths: a minimum deal in pursuit of one last ring, or a major trade to create cap flexibility. The first is romantic, the second pragmatic. Both are complicated.

At the moment, it remains speculation. But if the Lakers are truly looking ahead, the question is no longer whether LeBron James will change jerseys. It’s where he will choose to write the final chapter.
