Toronto Raptors on Ja Morant: “An intriguing opportunity”
After several turbulent years in Memphis, Ja Morant could be headed for a fresh start elsewhere. The Toronto Raptors are reportedly monitoring the situation and evaluating a potential move
The NBA offseason is shaping up to be full of major storylines, and one of the most talked-about names on the market is undoubtedly Ja Morant. The situation between the Memphis Grizzlies star and the Tennessee franchise continues to draw attention, while potential destinations are beginning to emerge for the two-time All-Star.
Among the teams reportedly keeping a close eye on his future are the Toronto Raptors, a possibility that seemed unlikely just a few weeks ago but is now gaining momentum.
According to ESPN’s Jake Weinbach, Toronto could view Morant as an opportunity to capitalize on while his market value is no longer at its peak.
I wouldn’t rule out the Raptors among the potential suitors for Ja Morant. Maybe it’s not a perfect fit, but Toronto could view him as an intriguing opportunity to acquire an elite-level point guard at a cost lower than his true value, especially if Jakob Poeltl’s contract were included in the deal

Raptors Looking for the Next Step
The experiment with Immanuel Quickley has produced respectable results, but not enough to transform Toronto into a legitimate contender. That is why the possibility of adding a talent such as Morant could appeal to the Raptors’ front office.
Despite the challenges he has faced in recent years, the former Murray State standout remains one of the most electrifying players in the league. Across seven NBA seasons, he has averaged 22.4 points, 7.4 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game, proving he can serve as the centerpiece of a competitive team.
At just 26 years old, Morant also still has plenty of time to revive and elevate his career. After a difficult stretch in Memphis, a change of scenery could provide the ideal opportunity to regain consistency and confidence.
A new Big Three with Barnes and Ingram?
From a basketball standpoint, Toronto already has an intriguing foundation in place. Morant’s arrival would pair him with Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, and RJ Barrett, creating a young core that could be ready to compete immediately.
The Raptors finished last season with a 46-36 record, placing themselves among the upper-tier teams in the Eastern Conference. Adding an explosive point guard like Morant could help close the gap on teams such as the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Detroit Pistons.
The price could be significant
Of course, convincing Memphis to make a deal will not be easy. Even if Morant’s value has declined compared to a few years ago, several franchises are reportedly monitoring the situation, and competition could drive up the asking price.
To put together a truly competitive offer, Toronto might need to include Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl, and at least one future first-round draft pick – possibly more than one.
It would be a significant gamble given the risks associated with Morant’s recent trajectory. At the same time, the upside could be enormous. When fully healthy and at his best, Morant is one of the most difficult point guards to contain in the NBA, capable of changing the course of a game almost single-handedly.
For the Raptors, the logic appears straightforward: accept some risk today in pursuit of the franchise-changing leap forward that has been missing for several seasons. If Memphis ultimately becomes open to moving its star, Toronto may be ready to make a serious push.
