Rich Paul warns the Celtics about Jaylen Brown: “A rare player”

Rich Paul believes the Celtics should think twice before breaking up the Tatum-Brown duo for Giannis Antetokounmpo, calling Jaylen Brown one of the rarest players in the NBA

The future of the Boston Celtics’ cornerstone duo has become one of the league’s hottest offseason storylines just hours before the 2026 NBA Draft. Despite winning a championship in 2024 and seeing both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown earn All-NBA recognition, speculation surrounding a potential split continues to gain traction.

Addressing the topic on the Game Over podcast, Rich Paul, founder of Klutch Sports, issued a warning to Boston’s front office. Drawing on the experience of his client LeBron James and the trade that sent Kyrie Irving away from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Paul argued that superstar partnerships often fall apart because of poor communication rather than basketball reasons.

According to Paul, avoiding that scenario should be a priority for the Celtics’ two franchise leaders heading into the 2026-27 season:

I saw the effect Kyrie’s trade had on LeBron. It only becomes a problem when people don’t sit down and communicate. How can there be a problem when you’re making $300 million and I’m making another $300 million? What’s the issue? What color is your Amex card? The same color as mine. How the hell can there be a problem?

Paul then emphasized how difficult it is to find a player with Jaylen Brown’s skill set. Coming off a season in which he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, Brown represents the kind of elite two-way talent that rarely becomes available. The Klutch Sports founder urged Boston’s decision-makers to consider that reality before pursuing a major roster overhaul:

Are you guys crazy? Do you know how hard it is to find a player like Jaylen Brown? He’s not in this Draft, he won’t be in the next one, and he wasn’t in the last one. It’s incredibly difficult to find players who can compete and produce at this level. Do you know how hard it is to win a championship, or even get there?

Paul’s comments arrive amid growing trade speculation involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to reporter Gery Woelfel, the Celtics have intensified their efforts to enter the race for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar.

While Boston’s front office initially appeared unwilling to include Brown in any negotiations, recent reports suggest greater openness to a three-team trade structure. In that scenario, Brown would be sent to a third franchise capable of providing Milwaukee with the assets needed to accelerate a rebuild.

A resolution to the Antetokounmpo situation is expected soon, with the unofficial deadline set for Draft night. Despite Boston’s strong push, league insiders continue to view the Miami Heat as the frontrunner to acquire the two-time MVP, thanks to a package built around young assets and draft capital – potentially including Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, or Jaime Jaquez Jr. – that could satisfy the Bucks’ demands.
