Miles Bridges to the Suns, Sam Quinn grades the trade a “D”

The trade sending Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns has split NBA analysts. CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn gave the Arizona franchise a D grade, explaining why he disagrees with the move

The Phoenix Suns continue to be active on the trade market, making what could prove to be a significant addition. According to ESPN, the Arizona franchise has reached an agreement with the Charlotte Hornets to acquire Miles Bridges in a trade involving multiple players and Draft picks.

In the deal, Charlotte sends Bridges, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to Phoenix. In return, the Hornets receive Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, and the Suns’ unprotected 2033 first-round pick.

Miles Bridges leaves Charlotte after seven seasons

For the Hornets, this marks their second major move in just a few days following the trade that sent LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Meanwhile, the franchise has committed to Coby White, signing him to a three-year, $74 million contract extension.

Bridges leaves Charlotte after spending his entire NBA career with the Hornets. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while embracing a team-first role that often extended beyond the box score.

The Suns add experience while creating financial flexibility

With this move, the Suns add an experienced and versatile player in Bridges while also gaining a significant financial advantage. Phoenix is expected to save roughly $20 million in luxury tax while opening up a roster spot ahead of free agency.

Charlotte, meanwhile, acquires two dependable veterans in Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale, along with a valuable unprotected 2033 first-round pick.

For Bridges, this will be his first NBA stop outside of Charlotte after being selected in the 2018 NBA Draft. In Phoenix, he’ll join an organization with several ties to Michigan State, from the ownership group to the coaching staff.

Early reactions to the trade

The deal has already sparked plenty of debate across the NBA. Sam Quinn of CBS Sports gave the Suns a D grade, explaining his reasoning:

I give the Suns a D. My impression is that they think Miles Bridges is a much better player than I think he is

Sam Quinn

It’s a harsh assessment that highlights the skepticism surrounding the deal. While Phoenix adds talent and financial flexibility, not everyone is convinced Bridges will make enough of an impact to significantly elevate the Suns next season.
