A true fresh start aimed at launching a new era and putting the nation’s capital back on the NBA map after decades of flying under the radar. With that goal in mind, the Washington Wizards have officially announced the hiring of Patrick Ewing as an assistant coach, along with Steve Clifford as a coaching adviser.

The legendary New York Knicks center and Dream Team member decided to take on a new role after celebrating Jalen Brunson and the Knicks’ recent championship as a member of the franchise’s front office.

Now he’ll join a team that is expected to draw significant attention from fans and NBA insiders alike next season thanks to the debut of AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Dybantsa himself welcomed Ewing with a brief message on X following the announcement.

Exactly one month ago, the two met for the first time in front of the cameras during a BYU event. There was a joke from Ewing, a few laughs, and the customary photo together. Looking back now, that moment appears to have been the opening chapter of a partnership that everyone in Washington hopes will last for years.
