LeBron James announces: “You’ll know soon”… then drops another hint about his future

LeBron James has finally broken his silence: the announcement of his next team is getting closer. And one comment about the Eastern Conference has immediately fueled a fresh wave of speculation about his future

LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James’ future remains the biggest storyline of the NBA offseason. After announcing his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers, the four-time NBA champion spoke publicly once again during Fanatics Fest in New York, though he stopped short of revealing where he’ll play next.

Between jokes, playful remarks and a few subtle hints, LeBron made it clear that his decision is nearly finalized and that fans won’t have to wait much longer.

LeBron James: “I won’t keep you waiting much longer”

During a live recording of the Mind the Game podcast, which he co-hosted with Tyrese Haliburton, the Indiana Pacers star wasted no time asking the question everyone wanted answered.

“Is there still a decision to make?”, Haliburton asked in front of roughly 5,000 fans.

LeBron, smiling, quickly shut the topic down.

We talked about it backstage too, Rese. We’re not talking about that today

Later, speaking at the CNBC x Boardroom Game Plan Summit, James offered another update that only intensified the anticipation.

I won’t keep you on the edge of your seats much longer

Warriors, Heat and Sixers: LeBron has fun with the crowd

During the event, fans began shouting out the teams they’d like to see James join next.

When someone yelled, “Warriors!” LeBron laughed before replying:

Hold on… what did I hear? Warriors… then Philly… Miami… and that guy even told me to go play for the Yankees!

LeBron James

The lighthearted exchange immediately sparked even more speculation about his next destination.

Responding to critics: “I’m not a difference-maker anymore? That’s just motivation”

LeBron also addressed those who believe that, at 41 years old, he can no longer change a team’s fortunes.

I’ve seen people on social media saying the best I can do now is get a team to the Play-In and that I don’t make a difference anymore. That’s fine… it’s just more motivation

His family will play a major role

Answering a question from an 11-year-old fan, LeBron explained that choosing his next team is about much more than basketball.

It’s a huge decision. This is the fourth time in my career that I’ve been a free agent, and I have to think not only about myself, but also about my family and where I want to spend the final years of my career

LeBron James

He also shared the conversation he had with his daughter, Zhuri, after making his decision to leave Los Angeles.

I told her I wasn’t going to play for the Lakers anymore and that I’d be going somewhere else. I wanted to know how she felt because being away from her is incredibly difficult. Family really matters in this decision

A farewell to the Lakers and a promise to the fans

Even as he looks ahead, LeBron took time to express his gratitude toward the franchise where he spent the past eight seasons.

A big thank you to the Lakers. I had eight amazing years with one of the greatest franchises in sports history. I want to thank Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, Rob Pelinka, the coaches, and all of my teammates. I’ll truly miss them. It was an incredible journey, but now I’m excited to see what’s next in the final chapter of my career

LeBron James

He closed with a message for his supporters.

Wherever I play, I hope the people who’ve supported me all these years will continue to do so. And to everyone who’s always rooted against me… I’ll see you there too. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Wherever I go, I’ll do what I do best

LeBron James

With the announcement now seemingly just around the corner, the only question left is which franchise will ultimately land one of the greatest players in NBA history.
