Wembanyama Dominates on Return: The NBA Has Been Warned

Wembanyama is back on the court for the first time since his hiatus due to venous thrombosis: here’s how the Spurs’ scrimmage went

Victor Wembanyama has returned. After more than seven months away from the hardwood, the French Spurs talent reappeared on the court during San Antonio’s preseason, marking his first game since the blood clot issue that abruptly ended his season in February.

The French big man had to stop due to a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, but he has now been fully cleared by both the team’s and the league’s doctors. His return was handled cautiously: a simple intrasquad game, just a few minutes, enough to test his conditioning, rhythm, and contact.

And even though he looked a bit rusty in his movements, Wemby scored the first points of the scrimmage and reminded everyone how impactful he can be on both ends of the floor.

His presence changes the game: he defends like few can, attacks like no one his size, and makes his teammates better versions of themselves. It’s no coincidence that rookie Carter Bryant described him this way:

He’s the first to take responsibility, the one who talks to you, pushes you, but always expects the best. The most incredible thing is the person he is, even before the player

For the Spurs, his return isn’t just good medical news: it’s a sign that the project can truly restart. Wembanyama will remain under close observation and be managed carefully, but the preseason has already delivered the most awaited confirmation for San Antonio fans: the No. 1 is back, and next season can start with him.
