Joel Embiid injury: “No structural damage”

Embiid remains under observation due to knee discomfort, but the Sixers are not concerned. Meanwhile, Paul George is getting closer to returning to the court

It was a bittersweet night for the Philadelphia 76ers, who defeated the Boston Celtics 102–100 but were left with some worries regarding Joel Embiid’s physical condition.

The Cameroonian big man has been listed as day-to-day with soreness in his right knee, while Paul George has entered the final phase of his post-surgery recovery.

The updates came after Tuesday’s medical evaluations: Embiid underwent imaging tests to assess the pain in his knee, while George had a scheduled check-up to monitor the rehabilitation progress of his left quadriceps, which was operated on last July.

After the game, coach Nick Nurse reassured fans: no structural issues for Embiid, who will be evaluated day by day.

There’s no structural damage. He’s just feeling a bit of discomfort

Embiid, who played only 19 games last season due to recurring problems in his left knee, is currently averaging 19.7 points in 23.3 minutes over six games. The four games he missed before Tuesday were planned as part of a conservative load management strategy, which is expected to continue in the coming weeks.

On the Paul George front, the news is encouraging. The veteran forward continues to strengthen his left leg and, according to the official report, is now in the “final stage” of his recovery process. His return – potentially imminent – would be a crucial step in solidifying the Sixers’ ambitions. They currently stand at 7 wins and 4 losses, a mark reached much faster than at this point last season.

With a relatively light schedule ahead – only one game in five days, on Friday in Detroit, before hosting the Clippers on Monday – Philadelphia can afford to take its time without rushing anyone back.
