Jaylen Brown says goodbye to Boston: “I’m excited and disappointed”
Jaylen Brown has spoken publicly for the first time since the blockbuster trade that sent him to the Philadelphia 76ers. His remarks mixed conflicting emotions, gratitude toward Celtics fans, and a few pointed comments aimed at Boston’s front office
The Jaylen Brown era with the Boston Celtics is officially over, and the next chapter of his career will begin with the Philadelphia 76ers. One of the most stunning trades of the NBA offseason sent the All-Star forward to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks (2028 and 2031), and two second-round picks (2028 and 2030). While the deal will not become official until Monday, Brown has already shared his first thoughts on social media.
The former Celtics No. 7 admitted it has been difficult to process the news.
I’m still trying to process everything that’s happened. I’m excited and disappointed at the same time. I earned the respect of this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment. I simply showed up every day, worked hard, and embraced every challenge

His words reflect the bond he built over nine seasons in Boston, where Brown became one of the franchise’s cornerstones, helped deliver an NBA championship, and enjoyed the best season of his career.
Still, the departure leaves a bittersweet feeling.
Saying goodbye isn’t easy when you’ve poured your heart into something. I’ll always carry with me the relationships I built, the battles we fought together, the championship we won, and the connection with the fans

Brown also made sure to thank the city that helped shape him into the player he is today.
I believe deeply in respect, and I think actions speak louder than words. To the people of Boston, I simply want to say thank you

Subtle shots at the Celtics’ front office
Along with expressing gratitude, Brown suggested he was unhappy with how parts of the trade process were handled.
Brad Stevens will probably take a lot of criticism. I didn’t like the way some of the conversations were handled. I think there’s a lot more to this story

He also shared a curious episode that happened immediately after the trade.
I went to the Celtics’ practice facility and my key card didn’t work anymore. I thought, ‘Wow, I just wanted to see if this was really happening. They already packed my bags.’
