Bad news for Jalen Williams: is his season already over?

One game, two devastating injuries. Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace will need surgery, and the Thunder could lose them for the entire season

Jalen Williams Injury vs Clippers

The win over the Los Angeles Clippers could come at a steep price for the Oklahoma City Thunder. In a single game, the 2025 NBA champions lost two starters, Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace, both of whom will require surgery.

General manager Sam Presti confirmed the diagnoses, explaining that recovery timelines won’t be determined until after the procedures. Both players, however, face several months on the sidelines, with a real possibility that neither returns this season.

Jalen Williams suffers fractured fibula and dislocated ankle

The footage of Williams’ injury immediately raised fears of the worst. With 1:14 remaining against the Clippers, he landed awkwardly on his left leg after being fouled on a drive.

His ankle bent at an unnatural angle, leaving teammates and opponents in shock. Williams was then taken off the court on a stretcher as the crowd applauded.

Tests confirmed a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle, two injuries that will require surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Cason Wallace’s shoulder injury will require surgery

Cason Wallace fared no better, leaving the game against the Clippers in the first quarter after a collision involving Isaiah Jackson in motion. Tests revealed a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which will also require surgery.

Wallace, who recently signed a five-year, $139 million contract extension, had become a full-time starter following Luguentz Dort’s offseason departure. His absence creates another major problem for OKC, which loses one of its best perimeter defenders.

Presti: “They’ll be back. we’re optimistic about both”

During his press conference, Sam Presti tried to look beyond the immediate challenges, pledging full support for both players.

We’ll be there for both of them. We’ll help them recover and get healthy, but we still have a lot of basketball ahead of us. We have to regroup and figure out the next steps, because these situations are part of our job, too

Sam Presti

Presti also stressed that, despite the severity of the injuries, there are reasons for optimism.

I’m not going to say this is the situation we want to be in, but we’re extremely optimistic about both of their recoveries. The most important thing is that it could have been much worse. In moments like these, you have to remember that we’re talking about people first

Sam Presti

He added:

They’ll be back on the court. They’ll play for our team again and represent our city and our state again

Jalen Williams’ social media message after the injury

Meanwhile, Jalen Williams deleted every post from his Instagram profile, leaving just one phrase in his bio, taken from a biblical proverb:

The righteous fall seven times, but always rise again

Jalen Williams

A difficult stretch now begins for the Thunder. With two starters potentially sidelined for a very long time, Oklahoma City will have to find a new balance and ask more of the rest of the group.
