New developments in the case involving Malik Beasley and an alleged illegal betting scheme tied to NBA games. According to ESPN, the former Milwaukee Bucks player has reportedly reached an agreement with federal prosecutors to plead guilty, reversing his initial position in the proceedings.

His attorney, Steve Haney, reportedly confirmed the agreement, while a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York also acknowledged its existence.

The details, however, will have to wait: neither the terms of the agreement nor the charges to which Beasley intends to plead guilty have been disclosed.

Malik Beasley’s hearing scheduled for December 9

The 29-year-old, who spent nine seasons in the NBA, is expected to formally enter his guilty plea at a December 9 hearing in New York.

Beasley initially pleaded not guilty to four counts related to wire fraud, sports bribery and money laundering.

According to prosecutors, the former NBA player allegedly worked with bettors to intentionally manipulate his statistics in at least four games during the 2023/24 season, when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Prosecutors further allege that Beasley agreed to participate in the scheme after accumulating several million dollars in gambling losses.

NBA betting case involves five other defendants

Beasley isn’t the only person involved in the investigation. The case includes six defendants, some of whom have already chosen to plead guilty or are preparing to do so.

William Brown has already pleaded guilty, while Ernesto Plascencia and Robert Gorodetsky are expected to follow suit. Former NBA player Ed Davis and his former agent Paolo Zamorano, meanwhile, have both pleaded not guilty.

The NBA also commented on the latest developments, without addressing the substance of the allegations.
